Cast Iron
Our wheels are the best you will find in the business today...no Bull! Our
wheelwrights have been building wheels for over thirty years; we are very lucky
to have them.
Because of lack of availability of large diameter stock, we now laminate our
larger hubs (8" and up). Using this method, however, will eliminate most of the
large cracks usually found around the hub area.
Also, on our streak type wheels (Revolutionary War period), we first hoop
tire the wheel, then cut 1/4" grooves equally spaced around the wheel to give
streak appearance. This method will produce far superior and longer lasting
wheels.
As in our carriages, all our larger wheels 42" and up have laminated hubs
that won't check like air dried! However, if you wish your wheels to crack and
split to look old, you will have to purchase them elsewhere!
